Editor's notes

We’re fully in the throes of graduation around here and inside this week’s paper you find the culmination of months of tedious work - beginning in February with the call to local and area schools, gathering their senior and eighth grade pictures and information, processing those pictures which arrived both in print and digital format, typing up the biographies of seniors and names of those eighth graders who are eager to move on to high school, laying all that information out while making sure to match up the right names with the faces! Whew! I’m here to tell you it ain’t easy.

Military matters took center stage on Capitol Hill last week, beginning with the House Armed Services Committee, on which I serve, approving the National Defense Authorization Act for 2013 ? legislation to bolster America’s defense capabilities to better protect our homeland. This bill invests in military readiness and supports efforts to combat the threat of terrorism. It ensures that our military can sustain the power needed to defend our people and our country.
