And so it begins- The Hickory County Commission met Thursday, Jan. 11, to begin reviewing budgets requests for the 2018 financial year. They met with Sheriff Brian Whalen, Accessor Clint Baker, and Recorder Pam Hutton to hear their budget requests, but as they have until Jan. 26, to make changes to the requests no decisions were made at this point. The sole purpose of the meeting was simply to hear what the officers felt they needed and if it would be feasible to grant those requests at a later date.

The Hickory County Commission met Thursday, Jan. 11, where they reviewed budget requests from Sheriff Brian Whalen, Hickory County Assessor Clint Baker, and Hickory County Recorder Pam Hutton. The meeting began at 10 a.m. and ended at 1:20 p.m., with a brief recess taking place for lunch.
Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force officials have released their statistics for 2017, showing the number of cases investigated, arrests made, and the estimated street value of seized narcotics. The task force covers the counties of Hickory, Benton, Pettis, Miller, Moniteau, St. Clair, and Osage, and figures printed below are compiled from all those regions.
On Thursday, Dec. 21, the home of Ron and Sue Rash, located on County Road 543, was lost to a blaze which sparked in the early afternoon. No injuries were reported, though the family did report the loss of two pets.
McCarty Senior Center staff are raising $500 in order to receive a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from Ozarks Food Harvest, the regional food bank for Southwest Missouri. The funds are due in part to a grant The Food Bank received from the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program.
